Painted Patio Carpet

A few posts ago I shared some photos of the start of our summer patio.  We had purchased some new patio cushions, a few accessories and also a rug.  Well, the rug tore the first night therefore for it made another trip back to the store.  I was unsure of the material when we purchased it and my suspicion was right.  So back to the drawing board.  I have been searching now for three weeks for another carpet however many of them are in the range of one hundred dollars and quite frankly, that is too much.  We had our old rug hanging around in the garage awaiting a trip to the dump, until a thrifty thought came to my mind.  What if I paint it?  I have nothing to lose, really.  If it fails, it's not like it's setting me back a whole lot.  So I picked up a small pint of black paint and had all of the other colours on hand.  With masking tape in hand I taped off the outer edge which was once blue and painted it black.  Once dry I randomly taped stripes across the carpet.  I had eleven stripes to fill in with paint.  My colour choice was black, green, brown and grey.  I have to say it was quite easy. What worked best for me was a mini roller from the dollar store and the end result: an inexpensive upgrade!

Kitchen Cannister Make Over and Party Weekend

Hey!  Hope you had a great weekend!  Ours was great!  It's that time of the year that we celebrate the birthdays of both our children.  Last year we braved two parties in one day, but decided to split them this year.  So needless to say it has been busy with all the planning and celebrating, however I did manage to squeeze one small project in.

Recently I purchased some vinyl to work on a project with ceramic plates.  The first attempt was kind of a disappointment so I reconsidered what I could use the rest of the vinyl for.  I decided to add some umph to my current counter top canisters.  The process was to easy. I simply cut the words out with my Cricut and transferred them to the glass.  I love the result.  It just makes them a little more decorative, all for the tune of about five bucks!

Back into the swing of things!

Well hello again!  Seems like it's been a while!  Things have been a little hectic around here the last couple of weeks.  I am proud to say that I have successfully completed my second half marathon in 1:58:43!  Fourteen minutes faster than my first attempt.  I also ran a 10.55km race this past weekend and placed 12th with a time of 57:44.  Now that I am in taper down/recovery mode I am finding a little extra time.
I haven't really started any new projects, though I have several anxiously waiting.  I have however managed to add to the list with some great yard sale finds.  For example, I picked up a pair of these for $10 each.  I love the "shutter look" on the doors!

My plans are to trim out the bottom and add some feet so they are raised.  So far I have applied a couple of coats of primer.  I purchased some paint today and aim to tackle this soon.  When finished they will reside in our family room.
Thanks for stopping by!
